The stage name NiMe was born from the first two letters of the artist's first and last names. His musical journey began in the early eighties, mastering the craft on two belt-driven turntables and a simple mixer. In those formative years, his mixes were recorded onto cassette tapes and shared in the schoolyards where his peers gathered. While his early influences were rooted in Hip Hop and Electro—inspired by the likes of Mantronix, Public Enemy, Kraftwerk, and Yello—it was the arrival of House Music that truly captivated him. It became a lifelong passion, and since that moment, not a day has gone by without House music in his life.
NiMe gained his first experience playing for crowds at youth centers and community houses in his hometown of Landsmeer. While he spent much of that era immersed in the club scene with friends, he remained dedicated to refining his technical skills at home, obsessing over the art of the perfect transition. This enduring love for the craft led him back to the stage in 2015. His interest in the scene also expanded into event organization, leading him to found the Zaanse Underground Collective (Z.U.C.).
Since November 2021, NiMe has been a resident DJ at Amsterdam Most Wanted (AMW.FM). Together with his friend and fellow DJ Steef Zweef, he created the radio show Reboot Sunday, which broadcasts live every Sunday from 12:00 to 14:00 CET. As a performer, NiMe bridges the gap between traditional and modern techniques. He continues to spin vinyl for its tactile, instrument-like feel and direct connection to the music, while also embracing digital tools for the creative freedom offered by loops and effects. Whether using one medium or a hybrid of both, NiMe's sets are a testament to a life dedicated to the rhythm of House.
